I took my cat, Cat, to the vet on Friday, April 25, because he had stopped eating and was losing weight. They drew blood and called me the next day to have him hospitalized. He was diagnosed as being FIV positive, having a heart murmur, and his kidneys were functioning at 10% or less. I took him in for "three or four days." I called about picking him up on Tuesday and he hadn't eaten that day. They weren't sure if he had an infection, so they put him on antibiotics. I was out of town on Wednesday and Thursday, so I couldn't pick him up until Thursday afternoon. I picked him up and they showed me how to administer subcutaneous fluids at home. He's home, and he doesn't smell like "hospital" anymore, but he's still only eating a tenth of what he would have normally eaten. I've set up an electric blanket for him to sleep on and kiss him a lot.
